The difference between Windows and Linux
A couple of years ago in one forum I, participating in one heated debate on the topic of whose swamp is better, published a post that will reveal the topic of this article. I quote it below:
A small digression about Windows and Linux. Here you understand what’s the matter: Windows is a combination of the core of the system, as well as utility programs and scripts that perform certain operations and tasks. On this OS, you do not have the right to modify or delete scripts and system software …
When you, for example, change the cursor on Windows, the work on changing the cursor is executed by a script that is already in the system by default. A graphical interface has been written for the script (this is a separate program), which is also by default and which cannot be selected, changed or deleted either. You press the button (graphical interface), thereby run the script and the cursor changes. For Windows, there is one option for the cursor change program. All. You have no right to change this.
On Linux, there can be a lot of such programs; graphical environments for Linux can serve as an example of this. Only I know about a dozen. So with the rest of the programs. You choose which programs to install. But the point is that Linux gives you FULL freedom of action. That is, you choose and bet yourself. Want to see bare Windows – take a look at DOS. Conveniently?
Therefore, if something is missing, you need to look for a ready-made solution and install it yourself in the system. If there is no solution, you must write it or ask an enthusiast. Linux is a constructor, you need to take it for granted if you plan to use this OS. There are assemblies like Ubuntu, where they have already screwed a lot, but there also screwed a lot of excess to please everyone. And they forgot to ask. Do you need it ?. Therefore, when using such assemblies, questions often arise such as How to remove all unnecessary ?.
Think about it: you bought a car in your childhood (for example) and you were happy because you bought what you wanted. You had no complaints. Now remember the children’s designers, it doesn’t matter what, legos, glands with bolts, etc. .. You wanted a designer, you bought it. You played it, collected something there that anyone wanted. Did you have any complaints against the designer that he was not a remote control machine right away? Is the machine with the remote control and the box with the designer the same thing? No guys, these are different toys!
Linux is essentially a constructor. And if you come across an assembly in which the car has five wheels, do not rush to make complaints to the author. It seemed to him more convenient. He cannot know what is more convenient specifically for you; he judges by himself. You do not like the fifth wheel – turn away. And in general, if you want everything to work perfectly, remember the saying: Do you want to do well, do it yourself !.
The end of the article.
Linux Conclusions and Reasons
Choose for yourself what you need more – convenience and comfort or complete freedom of action. Alas, you will not get one and the other right away for ideological reasons, the creators of these operating systems. And to make it easier to decide, you can watch a video on the topic of the article. In the video, I try to install problematic software on both OSs. At the same time, Windows is treacherously silent, and Linux provides comprehensive information:
Other operating systems
Naturally, the world of computer technology does not end on Windows and Linux. There is also the notorious MacOS. But it is too pathos and expensive, with its own set of software, hardware, ideology, and will not suit everyone. The matter is not limited to them either. There are many other operating systems for various platforms, both commercial and free (free):
Haiku (free BeOS equivalent)
eComStation (OS / 2)
and others and others …
Most of the listed are descendants of the UNIX operating system, not direct, but using the principles of their predecessor. Among others, FreeDOS is a free clone of the famous MSDOS (predecessor of Windows), ReactOS is a project based on the desire to make a free compatible analogue of Windows.
Chromium OS is also interesting – a good example of the next generation operating system, based on the principle of working on the Internet. Although I do not think that it is a good idea to store all your data in the cloud. But, undoubtedly, the army of fans of this approach is now and it is growing.
